USS Lexington Museum Reschedules Stage Door Canteen Event

Corpus Christi – Due to the recent inclement weather, power outages, and closures, the USS Lexington Museum’s 28th Annual Stage Door Canteen has been rescheduled to Friday, February 26, from 7-10 p.m. This event will be a magical evening of music and nostalgia, as the USS Lexington Big Band plays, and vocal artists Jason Armstrong, Flicka Rahn, and Victoria Majors perform songs of the WWII era.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in business casual, 1940s-era fashion, or even a WWII military uniform, and wear their dancing shoes. Strict COVID protocols will be in place, including face masks, and social distancing enabled by limited attendees, and tables widely spread out in the large open hangar bay. Appetizers, a cash bar, entertainment, and complimentary valet parking will be provided. This year’s event will include a virtual component. If you choose to enjoy the festivities from the privacy of our own ‘dance floor’ at home, guests can view the event live by visiting our website at https://usslexington.com/stage-door-canteen/. The site also provides links for virtual guests to support the ship through online donations.

“We’re excited to celebrate the ‘birthday’ of the ship with this fun event, and thankful for everyone’s patience during the rescheduling process,” shares Steve Banta, Executive Director of the USS Lexington Museum. “COVID has made the past year a challenge for everyone, and the recent weather, power, and water issues have added to these trying times. In a normal year, the annual Stage Door Canteen is an important fundraising event for us. This year is even more important, since these issues have resulted in greatly reduced attendance, and numerous closures. We’re proud of the legacy of this historic WWII aircraft carrier, and of our #1 rating on Trip Advisor for Corpus Christi. We look forward to everyone joining us—in person or virtually—as we commemorate this great ship and those who served on board.”

A limited number of tickets and sponsorships are still available for purchase at usslexington.com. Individual tickets are $100, general tables for 6 are $750, and premium tables for 6 are $1,000. Sponsorships of varying levels are also available. Proceeds from this fundraising event will support our upcoming “Women of the Navy” exhibit.
