USS Lexington Museum to Celebrate 80th Anniversary of Ship’s Commissioning at The 30th Annual Stage Door Canteen Fundraiser

SOLD OUT

Corpus Christi – The USS Lexington Museum will celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the ship’s commissioning at this year’s 30th Annual Stage Door Canteen fundraiser on Friday, February 17, 2023, from 7-10 p.m.

This ship is the fifth to be named after the American Revolutionary War Battle of Lexington. Originally, USS Lexington (CV-16) was going to be named USS Cabot. Workers who built her predecessor, USS Lexington (CV-2), and were in the midst of building CV-16, petitioned the U.S. Navy to rename the new ship to honor CV-2, an aircraft carrier sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942. The petition succeeded and this ship, USS Lexington (CV-16), was commissioned on February 17, 1943.

This year’s Stage Door Canteen will be a magical evening of music and nostalgia to celebrate the anniversary of the commissioning of this historic ship. Headlining the star-studded cast will be the USS Lexington Big Band, featuring vocalists Flicka Rahn and Victoria Majors, as well as special guest fiddler Scott Plant. Attendees are encouraged to wear their dancing shoes and dress in business casual, 1940s era fashion, or a WWII military uniform. Appetizers, a cash bar, and entertainment will be provided and complimentary valet parking will be available.

Individual tickets are $50, couples tickets are $80, and reserved tables for 10 are $700. Sponsorships of varying levels are also available. Proceeds from this fundraising event will support the “Women of the Navy” exhibit, currently under construction.
