MEMORIAL DAY 2014
HONORING HEROES ABOARD LEXINGTON
Corpus Christi – To honor America’s fallen heroes there will be a Wreath Laying Ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th aboard the USS LEXINGTON Museum on the Bay. Prior to the ceremony we will have a United States Flag Retirement Ceremony on the Flight Deck.
12:30 PM – Flag Retirement Ceremony
Boy Scout Troop 6 from Brownsville, Texas will conduct the ceremony on the Flight Deck. The public is invited to bring flags for this special ceremony. (Weather permitting)
2:00 PM – Memorial Day Ceremony
A commemoration ceremony and laying of a wreath will be presented for visitors as a tribute to the men and women who fought so bravely for our freedom. We are honored to have Joe V. Elizondo as our guest speaker. Mr. Elizondo graduated from Ray High School and joined the Marines after studying at Del Mar and in Mexico. He served in Vietnam and became a highly decorated soldier. Among the medals awarded to Mr. Elizondo were the Bronze Star, three Purple Hearts, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, and many more. Mr. Elizondo was wounded three times in combat with the third injury sending him home to South Texas.
The USS Lexington Museum On The Bay Volunteer Association is having a fund raising Book Fair beginning on Friday, May 23rd and continuing through Monday, May 26th. There will be many types of different books to choose from – stop by and pick up something new to read this summer. (9 am to 5:30 pm)
