Corpus Christi – Valves, Pumps, Soot Blowers, Sight Glasses – not the most glamorous parts of a ship but the critical equipment used by sailors all over the world to keep Engine Rooms on ships alive. The USS Lexington has scoured the ship for some of these components, reconditioned them and created a new exhibit around them. Visitors will now be able to see and touch this equipment, learn what their purpose was and how they made this 3 million ton aircraft carrier, into a mighty protector of the seas. Located on the 6th Deck leading into the Engine Room, the exhibit includes a small theater where visitors can sit and view Engineering 101. The film, produced by our Exhibits Department, will take you into the Boiler Room, Elevator Machinery Room, and Engine Room.
This exhibit was made possible by generous donations from the Gary Galiher Foundation. Mr. Galiher was a friend and benefactor of the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay.
