Funeral Services for Local Pearl Harbor Survivor CAPT Robert “Bob” Batterson, USN (RET.)

Corpus Christi, TX – CAPT Robert “Bob” Batterson, USN (RET.) passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on Friday afternoon, August 11th, with family members by his side. CAPT Batterson was the last known Pearl Harbor survivor in the Coastal Bend Area, and had been volunteering at the USS Lexington Museum for over 30 years. Bob enlisted in the Navy in 1939, and was assigned ashore at Naval Station Pearl Harbor when the attack happened on Dec 7, 1941. He later earned his wings as a Naval Aviator at NAS Corpus Christi in 1944, and finished out the war as a F6F Hellcat fighter pilot. He retired from the Navy in 1974 after 35 years of service. During Bob’s 30+ years as a Volunteer on the LEX, he would often be seen talking with visitors about naval history and community service at our Pearl Harbor exhibit. The entire crew of the USS Lexington Museum mourns the loss of this great man.
