Lexington Ship Service (LSS)

Supervisor:
LSS Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor

Scope:
To maintain a safe, healthy environment for museum staff, visitors, and guests and preserve the history of USS Lexington CV-16.

Responsibilities:

    • Priorities are to include, maintaining the approach way, admissions, tour routes, bathrooms, meeting rooms, berthing compartments, office areas, Hanger Bays, and flight deck.
    • Follow a weekly schedule for normal work operations.
    • Attend monthly safety meetings on proper equipment and chemical use.
    • Assist Special Events with event settings and clean-up duties.
    • Set up caution signs for visitors when needed.
    • Must be competent to direct visitors.
    • Must be capable of understanding and implementing the Lexington’s Safety Program.
    • Must be capable of understanding and implementing the Lexington’s Heavy Weather Plan.
    • Perform any other job duties as delegated by the LSS Supervisor or Director of Operations.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand; use continuous hand, arm and finger manipulation. Environment requires climbing steep stairwells, so comfortable clothing and shoes with non-skid soles are recommended. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25-50 pounds. The vision requirements include: clear concise, close/distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the environment is moderate.  Exposure to chemical agents, painting supplies and fumes.

General Laborer

Supervisor:

Director of Operations & Chief of Maintenance

Scope:

To do manual laborer on temporary duration as assigned within the Museum

Responsibilities:

    • Has the initial responsibility of ensuring the spaces and structures are properly preserved, painted and cleaned.
    • Evaluation of spaces with overall concern regarding materials and time of completion.
    • Responsible for cleaning and painting tanks within the Museum. Must perform manual cleaning and labor work as needed.
    • Follow a weekly schedule for normal work operations. Typically work Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
    • Attend safety meetings of equipment and chemical use as scheduled.
    • Set up caution signs for visitors when needed.
    • Painting and highlighting of inadequate ship structures that pose safety problems along new tour routes and where the constant flow of personnel traffic occurs.
    • Maintenance of deck/paint
    • Must be capable of understanding and implementing the Lexington’s Safety Program.
    • Must be capable of understanding and implementing the Lexington’s Heavy Weather Plan.
    • Perform any other job duties as delegated by Director of Operations.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is continuously required to sit; use continuous hand, arm and finger manipulation while performing the daily job function; continuously walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and standing/walking on steel railways requiring balance. Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience with general labor, working with tools & equipment as listed in job description. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job including working in inclement weather, confined spaces, and climbing.

Ship’s Store Cashier – PT/Weekends

Supervisor:

Ship’s Store Manager

Scope:

To greet guests of the USS Lexington Museum and assist with their purchases in the Ship Store. Provide excellent customer service and maintain accurate transactions of your assigned register.

Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates with Store Manager to maximize the productivity of daily store clerk duties
    • Monitors store procedures to assure the security of the inventory and daily sales receipts
    • Must possess excellent customer service skills to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Assigned a register for the day, and check that the register area is restocked with register, journal, and credit card paper
    • Clerk’s duties:
      • Restocking Shelves with Merchandise
      • Cleaning Windows
      • Cleaning Displays
      • Dusting Shelves
    • Ensure pricing, displaying, and storing of merchandise is updated.
    • Operates register and dog tag machine 
    • Is knowledgeable about the museum and ship store policies in order to answer visitor inquiries
    • Knows and follows established museum cashier procedures
    • Signing for merchandise when delivered by freight carriers
    • Be knowledgeable of fire alarm procedures
    • Be knowledgeable of announcement protocols
    • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Reliable means of transportation to and from the worksite
  • Successful completion of a criminal background investigation
  • Successful completion of a drug screening test
  • Successful completion of a physical examination administered by a licensed medical physician, verifying the applicants ability to perform essential job functions
  • Customer service skills: Friendly, helpful, and patient with customers
  • Basic math skills: Ability to handle cash, give correct change, and count money
  • Communication skills: Clear and courteous communication with customers and coworkers
