USS LEXINGTON Museum on The Bay has 20 aircraft aboard on loan from the National Museum of Naval Aviation. During your tour, you will notice that many of our aircraft have been fully restored, while others are still in the planning stages.

During planning, the history of the aircraft, including the squadrons that flew the plane, colors, types of paint and other materials and correct insignia are all taken into consideration.

Finally, the work begins on the plane itself. The Aircraft Restoration crew spends many hours preparing the surface and landing gear and other parts of each aircraft. Slowly but surely it all takes shape. When restoration is complete, the plane becomes an exhibit, complete with educational signs.
