T-28B Trojan

The T-28B Trojan entered Naval service in 1952 after a decision to standardize Air Force and Navy training. The Navy ordered 489 T-28Bs equipped with engines almost twice the horsepower of the T-28A. An additional 299 Trojans, the T-28Cs, were ordered with arresting gear and used for carrier qualifications of flight students in intermediate training. The T-28 was a primary and intermediate training aircraft for the Navy for over 30 years. During the Vietnam war, the T-28 was used in covert operations and proved effective against fast moving targets but flew low and slow and was highly vulnerable to ground fire. Lexington's Trojan is on loan from the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Penscola, FL.
