Service Dates: Joined Lex when she was in Yokosuka, Japan in 1959 and finished the westpac cruise. Departed her in Bremerton, WA drydock when transfered to Shangri-La, CVA-38 in drydock next to us.
Rank/Duty Assigned: When first boarding the Lexington was Seaman Apprentice and was assigned to Seaman Guard Division. Made NW3 quickly and was assigned to W-Division (Nuclear Weapons).
Comment: Good ship, good duty, great experiences. Best liberty mate was Tom June. NW2 E.B. Dunn was mentor. Went home with him to Pensacola one long weekend and liked Pensacola so much later lived there myself.

Comment: I worked for CMDR. Morgan and LT. Zelinski. My work station was on the O2 Level. I was stationed on board the Lexington when she was used as a CVT to train Navy and Marine pilots. Lex's home port was NAS Pensacola, Florida. I was 19 years old when I reported to the Lexington. I had just completed Radioman A School in San Diego, California and received my orders to report to the Lexington. It was great duty, a great ship, and I was privileged to work for some great officers that I developed a lot of respect for.

Comment: VT 20 went on two raids while I was with them; one on the Southern port on Taiwan and one on Io Jima a little island off of Iwo Jima then the USS Lexington came back to San Diego for refitting in 1945. I came back with them and went into PB4Y-2 Training in Jacksonville FA and Hutchinson, KS.

He passed away on (06-11-1981) he just turned 66 a week
earlier before his death. The Lexington was one of his first
assignments in the Navy. He loved serving on the carrier and
was happy of his Navy service during WWII.
